Lament

How deserted lies the city, once so full of people! How like a widow is she, who once was great among the nations! She who was queen among the provinces has now become a slave.

Bitterly she weeps at night, tears are on her cheeks. Among all her lovers there is no one to comfort her. All her friends have betrayed her; they have become her enemies.

Lamentations 1:1-2

Close-up of a woman in great distress.

Her face is expressive, her eyes are large and light-colored. She has visible fine lines and wrinkles on her face, suggesting age or hardship and her lips are pressed together.

Her attire consists of a dark, almost black, hooded robe or cloak that drapes around her shoulders and upper body. The fabric appears heavy and textured.

The background features a cityscape in ruins or devastation. Buildings are visible, but are damaged or in a state of decay. A stormy or chaotic sky is visible behind her, suggesting either a natural disaster or a scene of conflict. The color palette is predominantly dark shades of gray, black, and muted tones. There’s a sense of foreboding and dramatic tension in the image. Part of a crowd of figures are seen in the background, further filling out the scene of desolation.

Overall a portrait of lamentation.
