By His Wounds we are Healed

But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.

Isaiah 53:5

Close-up image of Jesus Christ, with a crown of thorns on his head.

The image is in a strong, almost dramatic, chiaroscuro style, with deep shadows and highlights. The face and upper torso are visible, suggesting a posture of contemplation or suffering. The skin appears pale gold or tan in the illuminated areas, contrasting with the deep black shadows surrounding the figure.

Striations resembling blood runs down the face of the person. A beard, somewhat diffuse due to shadowing and lighting, is visible. A crown of thorns can be seen at the top of the image from the darkened areas.

The overall effect conveys Good Friday emotions including solemnity, pain and sacrifice.
